STABILITY
Stability of tramadol hydrochloride-acetaminophen
(Ultracet) in strawberry syrup and in a sugar-free vehicle.
Johnson CE, Wagner DS, DeLoach SL et al. Am J Health
Syst Pharm 2004; 61(1): 54-57.
Cheap Generic Ultram (Tramadol) is available from this off-shore
pharmacy:
Tramadol The combination of tramadol hydrochloride and acetaminophen has
been shown to be effective for pain relief and is well tolerated.
Although available in the United States as an oral tablet, Ultracet,
there is no commercially available liquid formulation of this
drug combination. The authors prepared a liquid suspension of
tramadol 7.5 mg/mL and acetaminophen 65 mg/mL in a 1:1 mixture
of Ora-Plus and strawberry syrup or Ora-Sweet and tested its stability
over a period of 90 days. (Procedure for compounding tramadol
7.5 mg/mL and acetaminophen 65 mg/mL oral liquid is given in the
Appendix.) Stability of each drug was determined through chromatographic
assays. At least 97% of the initial concentration of both tramadol
hydrochloride and acetaminophen was retained in all samples stored
in the refrigerator (3-5°C) or at room temperature (23-25°C)
for at least 90 days. No detectable changes in color, odor or
taste were noted and there was no visible microbial growth. Due
to the bitter aftertaste of these suspensions, the authors recommend
using chocolate syrup to improve palatability, especially for
children.
